Applying for Free School Meals and Pupil Premium

In addition to the Universal Free School Meal (Years R-2) from the government, your child may be entitled to free school lunches if you get any of these benefits:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
  • If you've asked for asylum and you're getting asylum support while you wait for a decision, you can also apply for free school lunches.

If your child is eligible for free school meals, they’ll remain eligible until they finish the phase of schooling (primary or secondary) they’re in on 31 March 2023.

Further information is available from the Citizen's Advice Bureau (external link).

The school is able to claim Pupil Premium Funding for any children who are entitled to a free school meal. This brings in extra funds to the school to provide learning assistants and opportunities for your child to have an enriched learning experience. The school makes the application with parent permission.

Please let the office know if you think you may be entitled to claim Free School Meals by completing the forms below. Paper copies are available from the school office.
