Head's of School Welcome
Welcome back to the summer term at St Charles.
Every term is busy and this one will be no exception.
It is hard to believe that when we return to school after the bank holiday, we will be in the month of May.
May always signals the beginning of the end of the academic year.
The children in Year 3 who have been preparing all year to receive The Eucharist will make their First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 20th .We pray for them as they continue their sacramental journey.
Before that, our Year 6s will sit their SATs in the week after the coronation. This will be the culmination of many years work at St Charles and we wish them all the very best.
Over this period, the Year 2s will also be taking their SATs.
June and July promise to be just as busy with Sports day and International Evening and many other exciting opportunities. When we have confirmed these dates, we will share them with you.
Meanwhile, enjoy the two bank holiday weekends!
Religious Life of the School
Congratulations to our boys and girls in Year 3 who are continuing to prepare to receive their First Holy Communion on Saturday, 20th May. Huge thanks to Mr Lynch and Miss Harris who are preparing the children on their sacramental journey
RE Home Learning
Gospel: I am the gateway (John 10:1-10)
Using the Wednesday Word link below, read last Sunday’s Gospel
and reflect on the questions below with your family.
You will have an opportunity to discuss them again this week in School.
What does solemnly mean and why did Jesus use this word?
Why did Jesus use sheep for this story?
Jesus said he was the gate and no one can pass through without passing him.
Where do you think the gate leads to?
Why did Jesus want to tell the disciples this story?

Attendance
So far, the percentage attendance this year is 93%.
In comparison with previous years, this is very low and quite concerning.
Children with attendance above 95% make the best progress both nationally and at St Charles.
Learning is based on repetition and for your child to make the most progress, s/he needs to be here every day so that their learning takes place in context as it will invariably build on what has been taught previously. Please ensure that your child is at school every day unless he/she is unwell. We will always ring you if your child becomes unwell during the day and needs to go home.
Before any holiday, I always receive requests for leave. Headteachers are only permitted to authorise leave in exceptional circumstances which are deemed to be emergencies.
If permission is not sought or given, parents could be served with a penalty notice which will be issued by the Local Authority.
Eid Celebration
This week, our pupils and staff came together to learn about and celebrated Eid. We explored the significance of Ramadan in Islam and shared the joy of this special occasion with a delicious Eid breakfast.

Nursery Missing Teddy
The Nursery Police Officers made missing bear posters and helped place them around the school.
Has anyone seen Ben?
Afternoon Tea With Miss Slavin
Huge congratulations to a very special group of children who shared afternoon tea with me on Wednesday.
We have recently reviewed and re launched our school values. They are displayed all around our school and include, Respect, Aspiration, Individuality, Integrity, Resilience and Gratitude.
Last Friday at Assembly, Joshua, Andrei, Paulius, Kimberley, Lily, Elijah, Patrick and Freya were presented with their certificates. They had been selected by their teachers for the respect they show in all their interactions at school.
In addition, they also received an invitation for afternoon tea with me which I thoroughly enjoyed and I hope they did too!
This half term, the value we are focusing on is Aspiration . At assembly we have spoken about how we can use our ‘Keys to Succeed’ to help us achieve our goals and aspirations.
Year 6 SATs
Good luck to our Year 6s who are sitting their SATs during the week beginning May 8th. SATs for our Year 6s will begin on the Tuesday after the Bank Holiday to celebrate The King’s Coronation. The Year 2s are doing their SATs throughout the month of May. All the boys and girls are working very hard to prepare for these tests and we wish them well with the outcome.
Lent Boxes
The children each received a Lent box for collecting small change in aid of the Catholic Children’s Society. These should be returned to the office. Thank you for your generosity.
Together, we managed to raise over £740.
Breakfast Club & Tea Time Club
Breakfast club runs from 8am and costs £3 per child, per day.
Tea Time club runs from 3.30pm to 5.30pm at St Mary’s and costs £7 per child, per day.
Online Booking should be made via Pay360 in advance as we have limited spaces. Carefully select the dates needed from the drop down section.
This is not a drop-in service and parents will be rung and asked to collect their child if no booking has been made.
St Georges Day
Here at St. Charles, we hope everyone had a happy St Georges Day! We celebrated in the staff room with scones, jam, and clotted cream. It was delicious & definitely brought a smile to the faces of our wonderful teachers.

Author Visit
We were thrilled to host Michael de Souza, the amazing author of Rastamouse, at St Charles! He shared his new book, Get me, Bruv!, and led us in some engaging poetry activities. What a memorable day!
